ConnectionWe are created to connect with others. Unfortunately in Iowa we are disconnected in multiple ways as women of color. So in an effort to increase connections and improve our health, let’s do it together.
Over the past few decades, we have seen Johnson County change from being a transient community for many residents—particularly people of color—into a community where people of color are living, working, and raising families. Despite some improved career opportunities, the community has not been successful in welcoming people of color into other facets of our shared daily lives. Sankofa Outreach Connection was created out of our need to more deeply connect women of color to the community. Through Sankofa’s events and services, women of color can unite to support one another in a safe space without fear of being treated indifferently. We can address our unique challenges and the common plights that impact our community. |
