Juneteenth Trailblazer Awards

In 2016, we had the privilege of creating the Juneteenth Trailblazer Awards. This awards ceremony was created to foster a community connection and celebrate the unsung(s) heroes of our area who have had immeasurable contributions with little to no recognition.

This year,  we are going to select Emerging Activists, Outstanding Leader and
Transformative Organizations in the community.

Emerging Activist

This woman is someone who is emerging into activism in their schools as well as in the local community. They are beginning a life that is strongly involved in civil rights and positive change.

Outstanding Leader

This woman is an outstanding individual who has developed a career dedicated to advocating for marginalized and oppressed groups. They have taken up their own leadership in benefiting this community.​

Transformative Organization

This organization has contributed to civil rights over a significant number of years through activism and advocacy. They have supported and changed the landscapes of civil rights in the Iowa City area. They have tirelessly served their community while inspiring other around them to do the same.

The Transformative Icon Award is given to an individual who has contributed to civil rights over a significant number of years through activism and advocacy. they have supported and changed the landscapes of civil rights in the Iowa City area. They have tirelessly served their community while inspiring others around them to do the same.

Bronis Perteit
Outstanding Leader Award

The Outstanding Leader Award is given to an outstanding millennial who has developed a career dedicated to advocating for populations who are marginalized and deal with oppression. They have taken up their own leadership in benefiting this community.
